April 16

mile, medicine, researcher, pride, raise, check, neighbor, administration, cross, implicit

Captain Ogie had maneuvered close enough to the Sky God for Jasmine to cross to our deck in a flying leap with me tucked under her arm like a soccer ball. Shaving another sliver from my pride. The second we weighed anchor, the Sky God vanished!

The last mile took forever. Poa rode the crow’s nest and scanned for any sight of what we now admitted was a ghost ship. The connection to the Cupboard death was implicit.

We had radio in the Veil, but like our electricity and other “miracles of modernity” created and common in Half Light, no technologies worked very well around minimagicals.

“We have to contact the SGV administration and raise the alarm as soon as we dock,” I said, trying to retrieve some dignity by issuing orders no one really needed.

Jasmine stalked around, doing an inventory check. “We need to refill the medicine supplies and I’m low on arrows.”

Fortunately, we had a near neighbor who supplied arrows in return for the game Jasmine easily aquired. His larder was always full and Jasmine’s quiver was never low for long.

“We agree that ghost ship is linked to the death in the Cupbord?” Jasmine waited for my nod.

“Someone is raising ghosts,” I said and shook my head. “That’s Full Light magic and I have no idea how we’ll afford the help we need. An Apparitions Researcher costs even more than a Banshee!”
